Why is domain verification necessary?
ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) regulations require all domain owners to verify their email addresses to confirm domain ownership. Verification ensures that accurate contact information is associated with your domain.
When you register a new domain or update contact details for an existing domain, a verification email is sent to your registered email address. You must complete the verification process within 14 days to keep your domain active.
What happens if you don’t verify?
You have 14 days to verify your email address after registering a domain or updating contact details. If you fail to verify within this timeframe:
Your domain will be suspended, and related services, such as your website and email, will stop functioning.
Your domain will remain suspended until the verification process is completed.
For details on how to unsuspend your domain, see our article on How to Unsuspend Your Domain Name.
Steps to verify your domain
Follow these steps to verify your domain:
Locate the verification email
The verification email is sent to the Registrant Email address associated with your domain.
If you don’t see the email in your inbox, check your spam or junk folder.
Click the verification link
Open the verification email and locate the unique link provided.
Click the link to confirm your ownership details.
If the link doesn’t work, copy and paste it into your browser’s address bar.
Wait for reactivation
Once verified, your domain will usually resume functionality within a few hours. In rare cases, it may take up to 24 hours for all services to reflect the changes.
Note: You must complete the verification process within 14 days of receiving the email. If you miss this deadline, your domain will be suspended, and you’ll need to reactivate it.
