What are DNS Records?

DNS Records map your domain to the correct services, directing traffic to your website, email, or other services associated with your domain.

Here are the types of DNS Records you may need to manage:

1. A Record

2. AAAA Record

3. MX Record

4. CNAME Record

5. NS Record

6. TXT Record

7. SRV Record

8. SOA Parameters

Before managing your DNS Records, it's important to understand nameservers.

What are nameservers?

Nameservers store DNS Records and route internet traffic to the correct destination. They act as directories, ensuring that when someone enters your domain (e.g., example.store), they are directed to the correct server for your website, email, or other services.

  • Name.store’s default nameservers are the standard nameservers provided by Name.store. Using these allows you to manage DNS Records directly within your account.

  • Custom nameservers (from an external DNS provider) require you to manage DNS Records with your external provider instead.

Note: To add, edit, or delete DNS Records you need to first switch your domain’s nameservers to Name.store’s default nameservers

How to switch your domain’s nameservers to Name.store’s default nameservers

To switch your domain’s nameservers, log in to your account.

Follow these steps to log in to your account:

1. Open your browser and navigate to the website or platform where you purchased your domain

2. Locate and click the Login button, typically found in the top-right corner or in the menu

3. Enter your email address (used for registration) and password

4. Click Log in or Sign in (depending on the platform)

5. Once logged in, click Account or My Account (depending on the platform), usually in the top-right corner or in the menu

You have successfully logged in.

Follow these steps to switch your domain’s nameservers to Name.store’s default nameservers:

1. Log in to your account

2. Find your domain under Your domains and click the Manage button (you can also search for your domain using the Search icon)

3. Click the DNS tab

4. Select Nameservers under the DNS tab

5. Click the Edit nameservers button

6. If Custom nameservers is selected, switch to Name.store’s default nameservers by choosing Default Name.store nameservers

7. Click Save

Once your domain is set to Default Name.store nameservers, you can proceed to manage your DNS Records.

Note: You cannot change or switch nameservers while transferring your domain to another provider. You must cancel the transfer before making changes.
