What are DNS Records for email?

DNS Records for email control email traffic and verify your domain’s authenticity. Here are the most common types and their purposes:

1. MX (Mail Exchange) Record (mandatory): This record routes emails to the server hosting your mailbox. These are mandatory.

2. TXT Record: This record enables verification protocols like SPF (Sender Policy Framework) and DMARC to help prevent your emails from being marked as spam.

3. CNAME Record: This record creates an alias for a subdomain, such as pointing mail.yourdomain.store to your webmail login page.

4. DKIM Record: This record helps verify email authenticity and prevent spoofing based on your email provider’s requirements.

How to set DNS Records for your email if you’re using Titan Email

What is Titan Email?

Titan Email is our default email service. If you’ve purchased Titan Email, the required DNS Records (MX, TXT, DKIM, etc.) are automatically configured for your domain. You won’t need to add them manually unless they’ve been accidentally deleted.

In this case, you only need to review the DNS Records and ensure they are correct. To review your DNS Records, log in to your account.

Follow these steps to log in to your account:

1. Open your browser and navigate to the website or platform where you purchased your domain

2. Locate and click the Login button, typically found in the top-right corner or in the menu

3. Enter your email address (used for registration) and password

4. Click Log in or Sign in (depending on the platform)

5. Once logged in, click Account or My Account (depending on the platform), usually in the top-right corner or in the menu

You have successfully logged in.

Follow these steps to review your DNS Records:

1. Log in to your account

2. Find your domain under Your domains and click the Manage button (you can also search for your domain using the Search icon)

3. Click the DNS tab

4. Select DNS Records under the DNS tab

5. Confirm that the required MX Records and TXT Records for Titan Email are present

If everything looks correct, no further action is needed.

What to do if the required DNS Records are missing?

If any Titan Email DNS Records are accidentally deleted or removed, go to the Email tab in your account to find the missing records and manually add them back. For detailed steps, refer to our article on How to Add, Edit, or Delete DNS Records.

How to set DNS Records for your email if you’re using a third-party email service

If you’re using a third-party email service (e.g., Google Workspace or Microsoft 365), you’ll need to manually add their DNS Records to your domain.

Step 1: Obtain the required DNS Records

1. Log in to your third-party email provider’s admin panel

2. Look for sections like DNS Settings, Domain Settings, or MX Records

3. Copy the MX, TXT, CNAME, and any other records provided

Step 2: Set your domain’s nameservers to Name.store’s default nameservers

If you want to manage your DNS Records in your account with us, you need to switch your domain’s nameservers to Name.store’s default nameservers.

To switch your domain’s nameservers, log in to your account.

Follow these steps to switch your domain’s nameservers to Name.store’s default nameservers:

1. Log in to your account

2. Find your domain under Your domains and click the Manage button

3. Click the DNS tab

4. Select Nameservers under the DNS tab

5. Click the Edit nameservers button

6. If Custom nameservers is selected, switch to Name.store’s default nameservers by choosing Default Name.store nameservers

7. Click Save

Note: If your domain uses custom nameservers (e.g., from your hosting provider or another DNS service like Cloudflare), you must add the DNS Records there instead.

Step 3: Add or update your DNS Records

To complete this step, add or update the DNS Records you obtained from your third-party email service provider in Step 1.

For detailed instructions on adding or updating DNS Records, refer to our article on How to Add, Edit, or Delete DNS Records. This article explains all types of DNS Records.

Once you’ve added or updated the DNS Records, it may take up to 24-48 hours for the changes to take effect due to DNS propagation. For more details, refer to our article on How Long Does DNS Propagation Take.

Step 4: Verify your setup

After updating your DNS Records, return to your third-party email service provider’s admin panel and follow their verification steps. This may include options like Check MX, Verify Domain, or DNS Verification.

Once the Records are correctly set, your email service will begin functioning as expected once DNS propagation is complete.

Note: If your domain’s nameservers are not pointing to the correct nameservers (e.g., Name.store’s default nameservers or custom nameservers from your hosting provider or another DNS service like Cloudflare), any DNS changes you make in your account won’t take effect.
